Composition

active ingredient: chloramphenicol (synthomycin);

1 g of liniment contains chloramphenicol (synthomycin) - 100 mg;

excipients: castor oil, emulsifier No. 1 (cetyl alcohol, stearyl alcohol), sorbic acid, sodium carboxymethylcellulose, purified water.

Dosage form

Liniment for external use.

Main physical and chemical properties: liniment of white or white with a yellowish tint color.

Indications

For local treatment of purulent-inflammatory skin lesions (carbuncles, furuncles), purulent wounds, non-healing trophic ulcers, burns of II–III degree, nipple cracks in breastfeeding women.

Contraindications

Individual hypersensitivity to the components of the product, allergic and toxic reactions (dyspeptic symptoms, dysbiosis, mental disorders) to chloramphenicol in history, psoriasis, eczema, fungal skin diseases. Not prescribed for children during the first 4 weeks of life.

Use

The liniment is applied externally.

After surgical treatment of wounds and burns, Syntomycin liniment is applied directly to the wound surface. Subsequently, a sterile gauze dressing is applied over the wound, or Syntomycin liniment is applied to the dressing material and then onto the wound.

Tampons saturated with Syntomycin liniment are loosely packed into the cavities of purulent wounds after surgical treatment, and gauze turunds with Syntomycin liniment are inserted into fistulous tracts.

For treating wounds and burns in the second phase, apply once every 1-3 days depending on the wound healing dynamics.

Warnings

Special instructions:
During treatment, regular monitoring of peripheral blood is necessary.

No adverse effects on the fetus during pregnancy or breastfeeding have been identified.

When applied to extensive areas with simultaneous intake of ethanol, disulfiram-like reactions may occur (skin flushing, tachycardia, nausea, vomiting, reflex cough, seizures).
Contraindications: Individual intolerance, suppression of bone marrow hematopoiesis, acute intermittent porphyria, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, liver and/or kidney failure, skin diseases (fungal infections, psoriasis, eczema), pregnancy, lactation period, neonatal period (up to 4 weeks).

Due to the lack of osmotic activity (base: oil, emulsifier), it is not recommended for use in the initial phase of wound healing (profuse purulent discharge, pronounced tissue swelling, pain, and presence of necrotic tissues).

Use with caution: Early childhood, patients previously treated with cytostatic drugs or radiation therapy.

Side effects: Allergic reactions may occur, such as skin rash, angioedema.

Hematological side effects may include: Rarely—reticulocytopenia, leukopenia, granulocytopenia, thrombocytopenia, erythropenia, aplastic anemia, agranulocytosis.
