Botanical Benefits of Tansy and Its Use in Herbal Support

Tansy is a natural, multi-functional product that helps the body restore balance. It has been used in folk support for centuries for wellness, digestion, cleansing the body, easing the menstrual cycle, and even helping eliminate intestinal parasites.

If you're experiencing irregular bowel movements, abdominal cramps, bloating, recurring headaches, or cycle irregularities, don't ignore these signs. These seemingly minor discomforts may indicate underlying irritation, bile congestion, or parasitic load.

Tansy's Health Benefits and Its Effect on the Body

Tansy's recovery properties have long been known in support. It offers:

  • Cooling effects
  • Antispasmodic action
  • Soothing benefits
  • Pain relief
  • Antimicrobial properties
  • Wound recovery abilities
  • Antiparasitic effects
  • Diuretic action
  • Sweating-inducing properties

These benefits stem from the flower heads, which contain essential oils known for their cleansing, soothing, and recovery properties. This makes tansy flowers a common ingredient in skincare and cosmetic products.

Flavonoids found in the flower heads play a role in redox reactions, acting as antioxidants. They absorb UV radiation, help preserve chlorophyll, and provide vitamin P activity. These compounds also have choleretic, antispasmodic, diuretic, hypoglycemic, sedative, and estrogen-like properties.

How to Use Tansy in Traditional and Modern Support

In folk medicine, tansy is typically consumed as infusions or decoctions made from dried leaves and flowers. These are used to support digestion, reduce seasonal discomfort, and ease irritation and pain. Tansy is also used for its antiparasitic properties.

How to prepare tansy infusion:

  • Pour 200 ml of hot, boiled water over 1 tablespoon of dried flowers
  • Heat on a boiling water bath for 15 minutes
  • Let cool for 45 minutes and top off with boiled water to reach 200 ml
  • Take 1/2 to 1/3 cup 2–3 times daily, 15 minutes before meals, for 3 days

Tansy’s essential oils, organic acids, and other bioactive blends help eliminate intestinal parasites such as roundworms and pinworms.

Simple decoction recipe:

  • Pour 1 cup of hot water over 10 grams of crushed flowers
  • Steep for 15 minutes
  • Take 1 tablespoon 3 times a day before meals

The decoction boosts secretion, supports bile flow, normalizes appetite, and improves digestion. It's commonly used as a support for digestive problems.

Tansy is also included in herbal blends and botanical preparations with choleretic, antispasmodic, soothing, and cleansing properties. These products support liver function and improve metabolism, enhancing regeneration. Liver products such as Tanacechol and Sibecktan contain tansy along with other herbs like milk thistle, St. John’s wort, and birch leaves, creating a synergistic effect on the liver and bile system.

Tansy is also used as a supportive product  to manage sensitive discomfort. It helps block histamine release, reduce irritation, and support immunity when used in combination with herbs like nettle, ginger, and turmeric.

Tansy has a rich history in herbal support, often used in infusions, decoctions, or extracts. However, it's important to consult a doctor before use, as tansy has contraindications and should be taken responsibly.

Tansy for Skin Health and Beauty

Tansy-based skincare products are known for their soothing and purifying properties. Tansy is used in lotions, creams, balms, and extracts. Particularly prized is blue tansy oil, which offers numerous skin benefits.

Homemade balm for pyoderma (purulent skin conditions):

  • Grind dried tansy flowers into powder
  • Mix with unsalted butter at a 1:4 ratio
  • Apply regularly to affected areas

Homemade anti-wrinkle cream:
