The Rapid Syphilis Test for Treponema pallidum (TP) antibodies is designed for a one-step rapid qualitative detection of total anti-Treponema pallidum (TP) antibodies in human whole blood samples.
Treponema pallidum - A mobile microorganism from the order of spirochetes, causing a venereal disease that affects all body systems and leads to irreversible changes and even death in a long course. The course of syphilis is long undulating, with alternating active and latent (latent) periods of the disease. The disease is widespread almost everywhere. Currently, according to world statistics, there are about 50 million people suffering from this serious illness.
The main route of transmission of syphilis is sexual, which accounts for 90-95% of cases. There are also household, transfusion and transplacental routes. The only source of infection is a person with syphilis. A patient with syphilis is contagious during any period of the disease, especially during periods of primary and secondary syphilis, accompanied by manifestations on the skin and mucous membranes. Antibodies to T. pallidum are produced starting from 2-3 weeks from the onset of the first symptoms of the disease (chancre). During the course of the disease, the level of antibodies changes in parallel with the alternation of periods of the disease and may persist for several years after treatment, so the test cannot be used to confirm the effectiveness of treatment. The presence of antibodies in the blood of an untreated patient is a sign of T. pallidum infection.
