Composition

Key ingredient: phenylephrine hydrochloride; 1 g of balm contains 2.5 mg of phenylephrine hydrochloride.

Excipients: mineral oil, α-tocopherol, thyme oil, corn oil, glycerin, white soft paraffin, methylparahydroxybenzoate (E 218), propylparahydroxybenzoate (E 216), lanolin, benzoic acid (E 210), lanolin alcohol, paraffin, purified water, white wax.

Rectal balm.

Main properties: yellowish balm without foreign particles.

Properties

Phenylephrine hydrochloride has a local vasoconstrictive effect. It normalizes the blood flow to and from hemorrhoidal vessels, and helps reduce exudation, swelling, itching, and serous discharge in hemorrhoids and other anorectal conditions.

Pharmacokinetics.

This is a topical preparation. Phenylephrine is inactivated by tissue monoamine oxidase; its inactive metabolites are excreted in mucus or in small amounts by the kidneys.

Indications

Ease discomfort of itching, burning, and discomfort associated with hemorrhoids and other anorectal conditions, as well as in erosions, fissures, and microtrauma in the anal area.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to any component of the product, severe hypertension, tachysystolic arrhythmias, decompensated heart failure, cardiac conduction disorders, severe renal or hepatic failure, thyrotoxicosis, acute pancreatitis, concurrent use with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or within 15 days after discontinuation of MAOIs, thromboembolic condition, granulocytopenia.
